DNA Portraits™

The process begins with the DNA being collected using a patented, non-invasive technique: using a special swab (much like a Q-tip) to painlessly collect cheek cells. The whole process is simple and takes less than 30 seconds. This sample is then sent to our highly secure, certified laboratory, where the DNA is extracted to create a unique genetic fingerprint, using a technique that takes advantage of the variation that occurs among the DNA sequence of every individual.

The DNA sample is then stained with a fluorescent dye and illuminated by UV light, causing it to glow, giving off a fluorescent signal. A special camera captures the image, which is then digitally enhanced, cropped, color adjusted, adding colors and filter effects.

Each piece is carefully processed to ensure the highest level of quality, and is then printed as a fine art piece. The art is made using high quality acid free polyester-cotton canvas, using pigmented inks designed to resist fading. It is then hand varnished and sealed with a non-yellowing protective finish to further prolong the print life. Owning and operating all the equipment enables us to control the entire process, ensuring the highest quality results.

FingerPrints™

Since the initial success of our DNA Portraits™, we’ve introduced custom art from fingerprints too.

DNA 11 sends a FingerPrint collection kit that includes everything needed: a FingerPrint collection card, easy to use ink strips, and step-by-step directions. Once DNA 11’s art studio receives the FingerPrint collection kit back, we will scan it using a special high resolution scanner. The scanned image is then traced in a separate program and the image is adjusted by hand so that every ridge on your finger is clearly illustrated. We then take this electronic image and magnify it up to 4000% to create your custom art piece.

Next, your piece is printed on our Giclee printer on high quality canvas. Each piece is inspected by hand to ensure perfection and then varnished by hand. Finally, it dries for 24 hours before it is hand signed and carefully rolled and packed for shipping.  The end result is a fine art piece that is as unique as you.
